Kangasalan Kansantanssijat Kangasalan Kansantanssijat was founded in March 1976. During the history we have had hundreds of members and tens of dancing groups. Nowadays we are well known as strong local association with long traditions and fine expertise in the field of Finnish folk dance and tradition. Our concerts and other events host hundreds of participants –both our own members and others interested- every year and we constantly seek new concepts and ways of doing things. We have strong base and good traditions, which help us plan both yearly events and visions of future in best possible way. The core and base of our activity are the dancing groups, who rehears weekly from September to December and from January to May. This is made possible by experienced and enthusiastic group leaders and musicians, who plan and realise yearly programmes for their groups. Aside from the weekly rehearsals, we have lots of events during the year. For example weekend camps with dancing, singing and having fun together are a long-standing tradition, as well as Rimppa –concerts, where all our groups show their skills. In addition to these and other events, our groups dance, sing and perform when and where asked. Our younger dancers´ programs consists of short Finnish traditional dances and songs. In older groups´ repertoire Finnish and Karelian dances and songs are used to build longer programs, from 5 minutes to an hour. Our dancing costumes are Finnish national costumes from different regions, Karelian feresis and other traditional costumes. Skilful musicians ensure our performances are worth remembering. Kangasalan Kansantanssijat cooperates widely with local, national and international partners. In local level our own home towns administration is an important partner. We are members of different nationwide folkdance and music organisations, such as Karjalainen Nuorisoliitto (the Karelian Youth League) and Kansantanssinuorten Liitto (Finnish Youth Folklore Association). Through these national partners we have connections to CIOFF and its Finnish organ Folklore Suomi Finland. We also cooperate with Pispalan Sottiisi, one of the biggest folk festival in Finland. Pispalan Sottiisi festivals are organised in nearby Tampere every two years. We keep in touch with our international friends, as well with Volkstanzkreis Ahden from Germany, who are our oldest international partners, as with newer contacts in Croatia, Netherlands, Poland, Belorussia and USA. Our groups participate regularly in folk dance festivals abroad, e.g. in Germany, Turkey, Poland and all around the Baltic states and Scandinavia.
